Description

Pupae of Sphingicampa hubbardi direct from Arizona, reared from material from the type locality from several females. Easy to mate, easy to rear on proper hostplants. Spectacular larvae with silver scoli. Adults will emerge in May-June. No special overwintering is necessary. Do not refrigerate. Do not freeze. Keep at cool room temperature and completely dry until May, then allow them to warm and keep them humid.

Hostplants: Many different legume (Fabaceae) trees and shrubs: Acacia, mimosa (Albizia julibrissin), Mimosa, locust (Robinia), honeylocust (Gleditsia), mesquite (Prosopis); in Arizona, Texas and Florida try the lead-ball tree (Leucaena), on the Pacific coast try invasive exotic Acacia or "plume acacia," Paraserianthes lophantha.
