FOR SALE, cocoons AGAPEMA ANONA

Ad type
FOR SALE
Description
COCOONS of AGAPEMA ANONA. Rarely offered. Beautiful little silk moths from the deserts of southwestern North America. Moths will emerge this year during late October-November. Eggs are laid in groups and overwinter and hatch during the following spring. Larvae mature in April-June and spin beautiful net-like white, golden, brown or even pink, double-walled cocoons in groups among the spiny tangles of their host plant's stems. True desert insects, the eggs and cocoons can tolerate both intense heat and bitter cold.
HOSTPLANTS : only Condalia (Rhamnaceae) in nature, so far as is known. There are reports that larvae will accept mountain lilac or New Jersey tea (Ceanothus spp.), Chinese date or jujube (Ziziphus), and perhaps California coffee or buckthorn ( Rhamnus & Frangula)--all in the Rhamnaceae.
