PUPAE of HEMILEUCA TRICOLOR direct from habitat in Arizona and reared from multiple females. Easy to overwinter. Keep pupae completely dry and cool. Do not store outdoors. Do not refrigerate. Do not freeze. Emergence when the pupae are warmed and subjected to longer days (normal emergence times February to April). Eggs overwinter through the spring and dependably hatch during the summer no matter how they are treated.
HOSTPLANTS: many plants, but mostly legumes, Fabaceae, in nature. Larvae took oak (Quercus) in later instars this season. Acacia, carob (Ceratonia), powder puff tree or mimosa (Albizia), black locust (Robinia), palo verdes (Cercidium & Parkinsonia), redbud (Cercis), honeylocust (Gleditsia), mesquite (Prosopis), catclaw (Mimosa), feather acacia (Paraserianthes), leadball tree (Leucaena), etc.
