Rearing is easy. Keep caterpillars in clean, spacious, well-ventilated cages. Provide fresh host plant cuttings in water, and avoid handling the caterpillars as much as possible. Use gloves when you must. Spring is the ideal time to rear this species, as natural virus loads on host plants and in the environment are still low. This gives your caterpillars a strong, clean start and improves survival and development.
Food plants include: Acer, Prunus, Fraxinus, Ulmus, Malus, Salix, Betula, Syringa, Alnus, Carya, Corylus, Crataegus, Quercus, and others.
