Description
Dear Entomology community
I’m currently working in Vietnam on Hitpage plants and have collected some insect that I could only identify to the family/order.
I’m seeking help to determine the genus or species.
I’ve attached photos and collection data. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.
Some short discribing:
2. The flower-chewer, Geometridae sp
The larva has an inchworm-like shape, with a slender body ranging in color from pale yellow to green, turning pale pink as it approaches pupation. It bears only 2–3 pairs of prolegs. The pupa is exarate and yellow-brown in color. The adult is a small moth with a wingspan of approximately 15 mm, ranging from light to dark brown. The forewings display wavy transverse lines extending from the base to the margin. The hindwings are shorter and more rounded than the forewings; both pairs of wings have fine fringes along the edges. At rest, the wings are held flat and spread horizontally.
Preliminary observations suggest that the life cycle of this species lasts approximately one month.
The larvae typically hide along flower pedicels, styles, or young branches, where their body color allows effective camouflage within plant tissues. They feed on various floral parts of Hiptage aptera, including petals, styles, and flower stalks.
Thank you very much for spending time to read and check!
Best regards,
Xuan Mai
